Caterpillar Parts and Components Are Built Consistently Better than Substitute Brands

In test after test, they're better in materials, workmanship, heat treatment and machining. Test after test in our lab shows Cat liners, pistons and rings surpass their counterparts in virtually all the qualities that count most:

All Cat-built new replacement parts are the same that go into our production engines…so they're all premium quality, original equipment. And they're tested and updated constantly…so there's no technology lag as you'll often find in competitive parts.

Liners Liner bores that are uniformly round and precisely honed to properly distribute oil and form a tight ring seal. And the liner is heat treated over its full length; some competitive liners have no heat treatment.
Rings Cat rings are heat treated, high strength ductile iron – lapped for perfect roundness. Most substitutes aren't heat treated, often of low-strength grey iron and out-of- round.
Pistons Cat pistons are made of superior strength materials, precisely cast or forged and machined to fit liners perfectly at running temperatures. Other makes often have excess porosity, inviting cracking and failure; inaccurate dimensions, leading to piston slap or seizing.
Valves Cat valves contain 150% more facing material than the industry standard, so they can be reground and reused several times without losing hardness.
Heads Cat cylinder heads undergo precise, consistent casting and machining in Cat's own foundry. Coolant passages are thoroughly cleaned to dissipate heat properly. And rigid machining tolerances assure tight sealing with no warping stresses to prevent fuel and coolant leaking.
